The Stride Rite Corporation is looking for a Senior Designer for the Sperry Top-Sider Division who will be responsible for developing a line of footwear consistent with the image of the brand. The designer must have a high sense of the outdoor market trends. The designer must be able to design innovative, end-use specific, and market right product that has high volume sales potential.
Responsibilities will include:
Supporting the VP of Design with the development of product strategy for the brand
Rendering of new design concepts and approaches that support and strengthen the product development strategy.
Creating execution of new product design. Ensures that design is technically feasible, manufacturable and achievable within established cost parameters
Participating in field research with product development to identify industry trends, competitive direction, customer expectations and current consumer perceptions.
Observing/shopping market (internationally/nationally) extensively to follow market trends. Stays abreast of competition
Working with Sourcing to drive development and sourcing of materials and fabrics
Because of its authenticity and adventurous spirit, Sperry Top-Sider is the only brand of footwear and apparel for people who love the water. The ideal candidate will have design experience in the performance, outdoor channel.
Sperry Top-Sider has experienced 15 consecutive quarters of sales growth and continues to attract new consumers to its nautically inspired casual lines, its luxurious Gold Cup Collection, and its water-based performance footwear.
SKILLS:
This individual must demonstrate an interpersonal and creative energy level which fosters excellence and outstanding product design. The Senior Designer is also capable of thinking outside the box and has demonstrated the ability to determine new and innovative concepts that support the division image and strengthen the presence of the brand. Must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in design or illustration with 8+ years of experience as a designer. Must possess a strong sense of the marketplace and an understanding of the brand. This individual will also have a product development background, including knowledge of fabric, construction, components, etc. as well as previous success in line-building. Exposure to a Sourcing operation is required. Frequent travel to Asia is required. Must be willing to travel up to 40% of the time. Must be proficient in Illustrator and Photoshop.
